In a world filled with such a distorted and warped idea about the human body,
We forgot who we really are.
The ads on the television and the posters on the clutter filled streets
Are put up by vermin whose main goal is to make you think that you need products to become beautiful.
And maybe they have convinced you that you need to skip an essential meal to become Barbie.
Or that you require makeup to become presentable.
And in a world where role models are the weight of a five year old,
And people are so judgmental about what they see on the outside,
Our own ideas about true beauty become distorted
And a poisonous seed is planted in our brains.
So I am here to remind you,
Because I know you have forgotten,
You are not ugly my dear.
Society is.
Beauty is individuality. Beauty is being different but the only curse is only you know it until that right person comes along.
I look different from a lot of people , so everybody automatically assumes "different=Ugly"
I always thaught what you wrote , I just wasn't able to find the right words , but yours are perfectly showing what I feel !! Thanks so much !
Society has really poisoned everyone about what beauty should look like, according to the media. And those anorexic hoes that show up in the magezines and tv have really helped with the poison. Every girl has damaged themselves to become what everyone would consider "beautiful" to please people, especially the teen girls. And they don't need to do that; they just need to be happy and everyone who tells them to be this or that needs to give them a big middle finger.
I hope that one day, society gets a slap to the face and wakes up. But that's not going to happen now.
I congradulate you on addressing this issue through this poem. Well done.
